- Grower of the month: Tim van Leeuwen

In the heart of Honselersdijk lies a modern and sustainable nursery that excels in quality and attention: Kwekerij Tim van Leeuwen. With a range that includes Medinilla, Hydrangea and Poinsettia, this nursery is known for its high-quality products. Behind this success story is a rich history and a clear vision of the future.
The story of Kwekerij Tim van Leeuwen starts in Wateringen, where father Cock van Leeuwen laid the foundation as chrysanthemum grower. In 2009, son Tim joined the company, bringing a new focus on pot plants. With the arrival of Hydrangeas and Poinsettias, the family business transformed into a modern nursery that responds to changing markets. The move to Honselersdijk in 2018 marked a new phase, with a completely new 5.6-hectare nursery, including 1 hectare of outdoor cultivation.
Exclusivity with Medinilla
In 2020, the nursery expanded with the exclusive Medinilla, a plant originally brought to the Netherlands by Atlantis Nursery. This tropical crop, known for its graceful blooms and Filipino origins, is only produced by two growers in the whole of Europe. Thanks to Marjolein Scheffers, wife of Tim and daughter of a former Atlantis owner, the knowledge and breeding of this unique plant is preserved.
Sustainability in practice
The nursery is also at the forefront of sustainability. Thanks to its connection to a geothermal heating system, gas consumption is minimal. This system pumps hot water from a depth of 2.3 kilometres to heat the greenhouses, thus sparing fossil resources. In addition, biological crop protection is increasingly used, making chemical agents unnecessary.
The result: top-quality potted plants
The combination of modern craftsmanship, attention to detail and a sustainable approach results in potted plants of exceptional quality. Whether it's an elegant Medinilla, a colourful hydrangea or a festive poinsettia: at Nursery Tim van Leeuwen, everything is taken from a flowering plant.
