Hoogeveen Plants
November, 2020

November and December are the months for helleborus, also called Christmas rose, and this is one of the reasons why Hoogeveen Plants is grower of the month November at OZ Planten. You can safely call Hoogeveen Plants a helleborus specialist! This grateful plant adds color indoors and outdoors to the darker months of the year. In fact, the helleborus "Christmas Carol" continues to flower in the garden until March, so ideally suited to decorate the garden before spring arrives.

Impressive growth in 30 years
Hoogeveen Plants was founded 30 years ago by Siem Hoogeveen. He has started growing climbing plants. For years Hoogeveen Plants was known for its wide and deep assortment of climbing plants, but that no longer does justice to the nursery. Bob Hogerdijk joined the board 7 years ago and the company now employs more than 55 employees who carefully cultivate the wide range of garden plants in no fewer than 11 different cultivation locations every day.

The beautiful Christmas rose
Hoogeveen has been a grower of the grateful perennial Helleborus for many years, and over the years they have expanded their assortment to different pot sizes. Started in a 12 cm pot, the "Christmas Carol" acreage has been further expanded with pot sizes of 9, 10.5, 14, 17 and 19 cm pot. The 4-pack and 6-pack are now also a welcome addition. Unlike many other potted plants, the helleborus is not easy to grow and needs cold nights and sunny days to become visually attractive. The peak is between weeks 42 and 52, which is also where the name Christmas rose comes from. Did you know that the helleborus, when it is sold as so-called “naked helleborus”, i.e. without leaves, is extremely suitable as a houseplant?

Perfect Garden
Not only the quality of the helleborus catches the eye of the nursery, but also the various labels that Hoogeveen Plants has now successfully put on the market. Perfect Garden is therefore exactly the right name for the brand that Hoogeveen has for its garden plant range. Hello Helleborus for the Christmas rose, Upclimbers for the climbing plants, Elegrass for the ornamental grasses and bamboo and finally the fruit plants, of which the 100% organically grown Tasty Green is an ever-increasing part.
