- Grower of the month: Mostert
Nursery Mostert, a name synonymous with quality and tradition, is a family business with deep roots. Founded in 1860 as a vegetable nursery, this nursery has developed over the decades into a leading name in the plant world.
The Schefflera Family
Since 1961, Mostert has focused on the cultivation of Scheffleras, and Mostert is seen as a Schefflera specialist.
The Schefflera, also known as the umbrella plants, are not only popular because of their unique appearance but also because of the personal touch that Mostert gives them. Each Schefflera variety from Mostert is named after a family member, a tradition that began with grandmother Henriette, one of the twelve children who continued the horticultural tradition. Besides Henriette, there are now, among others, the Janine, Nora, Gerda, Charlotte, and Melanie.
The Chinese Money Plant
Another important pillar in the range is the Pilea, also known as the Chinese money plant. This trendy houseplant, known for its unique, round leaves, has quickly become one of Mostert's bestsellers. The Pilea underscores Mostert's ongoing innovation and ability to respond to changing market trends.
Trendsetter
Nursery Mostert is not only known for their Scheffleras and Pileas but has also built an excellent reputation in growing many special varieties of Syngoniums, Philodendrons, Piperaceaes, Monsteras, Alocasias, and Anthuriums. In total, Mostert grows about 150 different varieties, including very special and rare varieties, such as the Monstera obliqua Peru, Monstera adansonii Variegata, and Philodendron Melanochrysum. Nursery Mostert, in addition to its focus on cultivating unique plant species, places a strong emphasis on sustainability. The nursery utilizes rainwater to nourish its plants and makes extensive use of recycled materials for packaging purposes.
